Leo Cussen Centre for Law has announced it will be delivering practical legal training at ANU from January 2021.
The Leo Cussen Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice will be offered from the Australian National University Acton campus and will be open to students in the ANU College of Law along with law graduates from other institutions
At the completion of their ANU Law degree, ANU students will have the option to undertake the Leo Cussen Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice being offered from the ANU campus and complete their practical legal training requirements in Canberra.

Thailand’s new Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) will take effect in May 2020, subjecting organisations to new rules that safeguard the personal data of individuals. The law is modelled on the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and borrows many of its rules and requirements.

Ali Khan (LLB (Hons) ’04, GDLP ’10), an alumnus from The Australian National University (ANU) College of Law, has been awarded a 2019 Churchill Fellowship and will head overseas later this year to undertake research on supporting gay male survivors of domestic violence.
Established in 1965, the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust helps Australians to travel overseas to conduct research in their chosen field that is not readily available in Australia.

For many law students at The Australian National University (ANU), Beverley (Bev) Joyce King provided more than just administrative services; she was a source of warmth, familiarity and reassurance.
Bev worked for 25 years at the ANU Law front office, ensuring students were equipped with all the printed materials – from course outlines to voluminous readings – needed to succeed in their studies. She died on 19 December 2019 in Canberra. She was 77.

ANU Law alumna Rachel Kirk (BA/LLB (Hons) ’17) will head to the Peace Palace at The Hague after receiving the Permanent Court of Arbitration Fellowship to support the top international court’s work. The 12-month fellowship is supported by the ANU College of Law Frohlich Scholarship.27-09-2018
ANU Law alumnus Edmund Bao will head to the Peace Palace at The Hague after receiving the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) Fellowship to work as an associate to the top international Court’s judges. Edmund will be supported by the ANU College of Law Frohlich Scholarship.A new research paper co-authored by Associate Professor David Letts AM, CSM and Professor Hitoshi Nasu highlights consequences surrounding the legal characterisation of lethal autonomous maritime systems (LAMS).
Katherine Flint has been intrigued by the law of the sea since she first heard about it in her International Law (LAWS6250) course at The Australian National University (ANU) College of Law.
Dr Jessica Hambly is a socio-legal scholar and deputy director of the ANU Law Reform and Social Justice (LRSJ) research and policy group. She joined the ANU College of Law as a postdoctoral fellow in February 2020.
With research interests spanning asylum law and procedure, refugee rights, gender and migration, legal geography, and other fields, Dr Hambly was drawn to the ANU College of Law by its reputation as “a top research institution with leading scholars in the field”.

I did my sabbatical here in 2018 and decided I loved it so much that I just had to come back permanently

Originally from Newcastle, NSW before settling in Canberra in 2017, with about a decade in China in between. I was drawn to ANU because I wanted to work with great minds building a better future.
