Event description

Join the ANU College of Law and Women in Law ANU (WILA) for a morning tea as we celebrate Elizabeth Lee, ANU alumna, member of the ACT Legislative Assembly and Leader of the Opposition as she is presented the Women’s Association of Law Students Pioneer of Justice award by the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.

Ms. Lee is the Assistant Speaker, Shadow Minister for Education, Shadow Minister for Disability and Shadow Minister for the Environment. Ms. Lee represents the electorate of Kurrajong and is a member of the Liberal Party. In 2021, Ms. Lee introduced legislation that led to the Australian Capital Territory becoming the first legislature in the country to criminalize stealthing, the nonconsensual removal of a condom during sex. She is a long-time advocate for the environment and issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. Ms. Lee was part of the Australian Coalition for Conservation delegation at the COP26 conference in Glasgow in 2021.

Ms. Lee migrated from South Korea to Australia when she was seven years old and studied law at the Australian National University. Prior to becoming a legislator, Ms. Lee had an active law practice and was a lecturer at the Australian National University and the University of Canberra. She is the first Korean-Australian politician elected to state and territory governments in Australia.
