For over 33 years, Helen has dedicated her career to improving human rights and ending discrimination. She was appointed the ACT Human Rights Commissioner in 2004 and has worked on human rights audits of detention facilities and discrimination complaints. She has national and international expertise in health and human rights issues, particularly in HIV and AIDS issues. She is a former member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmissible Infections and former member of several advisory bodies on organ and tissue donation.

  • Awarded a Gift of Life Advocacy Award in 2015 for outstanding contribution and continued support for organ and tissue donation and transplantation.
  • Member of the ACT Law Reform Advisory Council.
  • ACT finalist for the 2016 Australian of the Year Awards and Telstra ACT Business Woman of the Year 2012.
  • Awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2010.
