The ANU Law School Visiting Fellows Program welcomes leading academics, practitioners and policy-makers from around the world to Australia’s national law school. Our Visiting Fellows enjoy the opportunity to engage with our faculty of accomplished legal and interdisciplinary scholars and conduct collaborative or individual research projects within an intellectually vibrant research community. Many Visiting Fellows often also engage with the broader ANU academic community beyond the Law School. 

• The Academic Stream invites applications from field leaders, mid-career and emerging scholars from global law faculties. Field leaders will usually have 20+ years of experience, mid-career scholars 5-15 years and emerging scholars will have 1-5 years experience in the nominated research field. While there are exceptional cases, PhD students will not ordinarily be eligible for this scheme.
• The Practitioners Stream welcomes high profile practitioners and policy makers from organisations with global impact.
• Typically, the duration of fellowships will be for a period of approximately 3 weeks, but applications could be considered for 6 or 9 weeks.

The Visiting Fellows Program is typically for international visitors, but applications will be considered from domestic visitors when capacity allows.

• Visiting Fellows are hosted full-time on the ANU campus throughout the duration of the program and have access to office space, ANU libraries, and other resources.
• The program also offers funding for travel and accommodation costs, arranged within ANU policies and timeframes.

Application Procedure

To be considered for the Visiting Fellows Program, please complete the online Expression of Interest form. A two-page summary resume should be uploaded with the form.

Application Timelines

 Our application timelines take into account the ANU academic year and the Australian summer and winter breaks:

• Applications for visitors who want to come during Semester 1 2027 (ideal time to visit being mid-February to mid-May) should apply by 1 July 2026 and can expect to hear back by 1 September 2026.
• Applications for visitors who want to come during Semester 2 2027 (ideal time to visit being mid-July to mid-October) should apply by 1 February 2027 and can expect to hear back by 2 April 2027.
• Potential visitors considering visits to the ANU beyond 2027 are encouraged to apply/make contact if they wish to explore options.
