Step 1: Choose your courses

Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in a Flexible Double Degree

A Flexible Double Degree (FDD) is normally composed of 240 units (40 courses), or the equivalent of five years full-time study. The Law component of an FDD program consists of 144 units (24 courses) in total, distributed as follows:

  • 16 Law compulsory courses (96 units)
  • 8 Law elective courses (48 units), including one law Capstone Course (6 units minimum)

Your other courses (normally 16 courses or 96 units) of your FDD will be towards your second non-law degree.

In Semester Two, 2025, you should enrol in:

Bachelor of Laws (Hons) as a Single Degree

Students studying the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) as a single degree will need to complete 192 units in total (32 courses), equivalent to four years of full-time study, distributed as follows:

  • 16 compulsory law courses (96 units)
  • 8 Law elective courses (48 units), including one law capstone course (6 units minimum)
  • 8 courses of Law or non-law elective courses (48 units)

Step 2: Enrol in your courses on ISIS

ISIS allows students to enrol, view invoices, check grades, confirm graduation eligibility, pay fees, submit commonwealth assistance forms (CAF), maintain personal information.

How to find Law courses on offer in 2025

Go to the Law Course Search Website. At the top of the page, select:

  • 2025 under 'Year'
  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) under 'Program'

Read the course description by clicking on the course code.

 

Step 3: My Timetable

MyTimetable is the ANU official timetabling system enabling you to view the timetable for your enrobed courses, browse, then self-allocate to small teaching activities / tutorials.

Canvas

Canvas is ANU’s new Learning Management System, where you can access course materials, readings, lecture recordings, and submit assignments. You’ll be granted access to your courses on Canvas within 24–72 hours after enrolling via ISIS.

Census Dates

Each course has a census date. If you are enrolled in a course once the course census date passes, you will remain liable for the full tuition and associated fees for that course.

The following standard census dates apply at ANU:

  • First Semester Census Date is 5 April
  • Second Semester Census Date is 31 August

Each course in a non-standard session has its own individual census date. Please look up course code on ANU Program and Courses to find the census date for that course. More information on census dates can be found here.

 

 

Step 4: Apply for a Scholarship or Bursary

Law Study Bursary

Each semester, the ANU Law School offers 5 x $500 gift vouchers for Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Juris Doctor students to assist with the purchase of law textbooks (Harry Hartog gift vouchers) or the purchase of electronic equipment required to study law at ANU (JB Hi-Fi gift vouchers).

All LLB(Hons) and JD students who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for this bursary. Priority will be given to students who can demonstrate a higher level of financial hardship.

The George and Celeste Vallance Bursary

The objective of the Award is to provide financial support to a student who identifies as a member of the LGBTIQ+ community, and who is experiencing financial hardship.

In 2025, one bursary of a value of $1,000 will be offered.

International and Incoming Exchange Law Students

We encourage international and incoming exchange students to attend the Welcome to Law at ANU event. This face-to-face information session will also cover everything an international student should know, from rights and responsibilities to services available to you.

Lockers Available!

The ANU Law School has lockers available for law students to hire during the academic year.

The lockers are located in Building 5, in the corridor next to the Law library. Lockers can only be accessed during the Law library opening hours.

IMPORTANT!

  • Lockers are available from O-week until the end of the examination period.
  • There is no fee to hire a locker.
  • Students must bring their own padlock (suitcase size) and provide photo ID.
  • Lockers will be distributed on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. There is no waiting list.
  • All lockers must be vacated at the end of examination period, in Semester One.

To take possession of a locker, students will need to present themselves at the College Student and Education Support team, during front counter opening hours.

Students will have the opportunity to meet most of the above services and groups during the Orientation week.
