Japanese society is undergoing significant change—through aging, innovation, and shifting social norms—offering a unique setting for legal study. The University of Tokyo, Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, is pleased to announce the second edition of our one-week seminar on Japanese law (the UT Winter School), to be held in February 2026. Building on the success of the inaugural program, the UT Winter School continues to offer a distinctive opportunity to delve deeply into Japanese law. All courses are taught in English.

Rather than just presenting lectures on textbook Japanese law, each session will focus on contemporary legal issues in Japanese society (and the world), encouraging lively discussions and exchange of views among participants.

While the program primarily targets international students interested in Japan but not yet proficient in Japanese, we also welcome Japanese students eager to engage in international exchange.

In 2026, the program will run in Tokyo from 3 - 7 February 2026 inclusive, with the theme focusing on Japanese law.
