My professional background is as an experienced policy analyst with a history of working in the government administration industry. Having worked on high-profile government policy and projects in the extractive industries and energy sectors, I have a well-rounded understanding of the regulatory complexities faced by the current world energy transition.

I chose to study a Master of Laws at ANU because I was looking for a career change. I have always been purpose-driven in my career. I am motivated by a genuine desire to find solutions to some of our complex economic, environmental, and social challenges. I am particularly interested in regulatory and policy solutions to climate change. The public and private sector working closely to embrace emerging technologies is part of the energy transition and policy and law are part of that implementation. This is what made studying public and international law at ANU an essential core functional requirement for my successful career path.

I chose ANU because of its reputation as being Australia’s top university. As Canberra is the home of the Australian Government, it is a great place to study law because it is close to policymakers, the High Court and Parliament.

One of the most memorable experiences of my studies so far has been studying during the COVID-19 pandemic. I enjoyed getting to know other students after the lockdown. I met people at futsal and soccer and then went out to local restaurants and cafes.

A course I’d recommend isContemporary Issues in Administrative Law (LAWS8271). As a public servant, it filled gaps in my knowledge. The course helped me understand more about government scrutiny and accountability. One of the highlights was a guest lecture from a former member of the Administration Appeals Tribunal (AAT).

Studying at ANU has presented me with new opportunities to influence and drive policy. After graduating, I hope to influence change in the energy sector by providing new innovative solutions to complex climate change global issues.

My advice to new students is to be flexible with your subject choices and specialisations. I initially was unsure about which area to specialise in. As I learnt more throughout my degree and spoke to student administration, I decided on the best specialisation to meet my career goals.

Most importantly, don’t be afraid of Canberra’s winter! Speak to the locals about how to stay warm.
