A wide range of student prizes are awarded each year by the ANU Law School. The objectives of the prizes are to recognise students who have demonstrated a high level of academic excellence whilst studying law at the ANU.
A prize is an award given in recognition of outstanding performance, academic achievement or service. Most prizes are awarded for quantifiable achievement as set out in the relevant Conditions of Award, and provides students with a tangible way to demonstrate their dedication and application in studying law.

Tillyard Prize
The Tillyard Prize is the oldest and most prestigious prize available to bachelor degree students of the University. Originally established in 1940, the Prize is awarded to the student whose personal qualities and contribution to University life have been outstanding and who in the year of the award has completed a Degree of Bachelor with Honours.
Nominations can be submitted by students (including self-nomination) or by Deans of ANU Colleges, Heads or Directors of areas, programs or other academic staff of the University.
Love Prize
The Love Prize recognises students who have an outstanding academic record and have demonstrated influence and leadership through contributions which have positively impacted the Canberra, regional, national or international communities. The Prize commemorates Dr Robin and Mrs Patricia Tillyard, who were important contributors to the formation and early life of the University as well as to the wider Canberra community.
Nominations can be submitted by Deans and Associate Deans, Directors of Divisions or the Registrar.
Nominations
To be endorsed by the Dean of the ANU College of Law, Governance and Policy, nominations for the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) students must be submitted to the ANU Law School by 5pm Wednesday 26 November. Nominations without endorsement are not accepted by the University Medals Committee.

Eligibility and Selection of recipients
The eligibility, selection and contraints are indicated in the relevant Conditions of Award of a prize. You can find the Conditions of Award on the ANU Prizes website, under the relevant prize's page.
Recipient Obligations
The awarding of a prize is based on the information provided to the University. A prize may be declined by the recipient once they have been notified as the prize winner. This must be provided in writing to ANU Law School no later than two weeks from notification.
If the prize is accepted by the recipient, they agree to the publication of their name.
In some instances the recipient may be asked to:
- write a letter of thanks to the donor;
- participate in marketing activities and/or asked to provide a reflective statement.
The recipient of this award is subject to The Australian National University Act 1991 as amended, and to the Statutes, Rules, Regulations and Resolutions of the University.
