All students and staff travelling outside the ACT must complete a travel approval form. This process enables ANU to monitor the whereabouts of students and staff while away from campus in case of an emergency, and ensures coverage by ANU travel insurance for the duration of the trip.
This form is also used to arrange flights, accommodation, and/or transportation through the University’s preferred travel agent, ATPI, ensuring the ANU community receives the best possible rates for their travel.
Please note that the following instructions are for ANU Law students only, and the travel approval form via the ATPI Travel Hub should be lodged prior booking flights and accommodations.
For the below programs, the travel approval form is completed as part of the program application:
Before starting a travel approval request…
- Read and familiarise yourself with the ANU travel handbook and the ANU travel policy.
- If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you will need to receive written clearance from a relevant medical practitioner confirming you are fit to travel. Failure to do so may result in ineligibility for, or cancellation of, ANU travel insurance.
- Update your Contact Details and Emergency contact details on ANUHub by clicking the 'Personal Data' tile on the homepage or via the pathway: NavBar (compass icon) > Menu > ANUHub > Personal Data > Profile
- Determine if a risk assessment is required. A risk assessment is only needed if your travel involves:
- Travelling to a known high-risk setting. (e.g. Hospitals, residential aged care facilities, correctional facilities)
- Domestic travel to high-risk location (e.g. areas affected by natural disasters, civil unrest, or identified by the local community as high risk).
- Travel to undertake fieldwork (e.g. off-campus locations that are outdoors or external to a building/structure; fieldwork includes practical teaching and research activities conducted in the natural environment or community).
- Travel to vulnerable communities or remote areas.
- International travel to destinations rated DFAT Level 3 or 4.
If your trip requires a risk assessment, or if you have any questions, please email enquiries.clgp@anu.edu.au with an outline of your activity before submitting your travel approval form. Our office will assist you in arranging the necessary risk assessment.
Any question in relation to ANU Travel Insurance and ANU Travel Policy should be directed to the ANU Insurance Office at insurance.office@anu.edu.au.
Private Travels
Please note that under ANU travel insurance, students and staff may include up to 40% private travel as part of their approved ANU business travel, capped at a maximum of seven (7) days. Any private travel exceeding this limit is not covered by ANU insurance, and you will need to arrange your own travel insurance to cover the private travel portion of your trip. For more information, please refer to Personal Travel During Business Travel page.
