Why have I received this offer?
You have been made an offer to the Graduate Certificate of Law as you have not met the entry requirements for the program you have applied for. The Graduate Certificate of Law (GCLAW) is a program that is designed to be a stand-alone qualification or provide a pathway qualification to the Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Financial Management and Law, Master of International Law and Diplomacy or the Juris Doctor (JD) program.
What is the Graduate Certificate of Law?
The Graduate Certificate of Law is a postgraduate qualification that can be taken over 6 months full time (24 units). It includes a compulsory course on Law and Legal Institutions which provides an important foundation for students’ legal studies. The course will equip you with an understanding of the role and function of law in a range of topical areas such as technology, human security and the environment.
The remaining three courses within the Graduate Certificate of Law can be selected from a wide range of topics or specialisations such as international law, public law, new techonologies law, human security law and private commercial law.
How does the Graduate Certificate of Law work as a pathway?
Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate of Law, you have two options. You can:
- apply to transfer to the Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Financial Management and Law, Master of International Law and Diplomacy or the Juris Doctor (JD) program; or
- graduate with the Graduate Certificate of Law.
If you graduate and then would like to undertake a Master’s program, you will need to submit a new application to the University. You cannot transfer after graduating from a program.
What is required to continue my postgraduate studies?
In order to transfer or apply to the Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Financial Management and Law, Master of International Law and Diplomacy or the Juris Doctor (JD) program, you will need to achieve a GPA of 5.0/7.0 in the Graduate Certificate of Law.
Does the Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Financial Management and Law, Master of International Law and Diplomacy or the Juris Doctor (JD) program take longer after completing the Graduate Certificate of Law?
No. You are eligible to receive credit for the completed courses taken in the Graduate Certificate of Law. Please note that only certain courses will be eligible to be credited towards the Master of Financial Management and Law and the Master of International Law and Diplomacy so do ensure that you select your enrolment carefully. You will not be required to submit a credit application. The credit will be processed once you commence the Master of Laws (LLM), Master of Financial Management and Law, Master of International Law and Diplomacy or the Juris Doctor (JD) program.
How do I apply to transfer?
You will need to submit an application to transfer for the subsequent session via ISIS by the published deadline.
