The Australian National University (ANU) College of Law congratulates all members of our community who have been acknowledged in the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Eleven ANU Law alumni have been recognised in the 2021 Queens Birthday Honours List for their outstanding achievements across a broad range of fields, and for their invaluable contribution to our society. We are proud to extend our warmest congratulations to all of our alumni who were recognised this year.
Philip Alston (HonLLD ‘19) AO
Professor Alston has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the law, particularly in the area of international human rights, and to legal education.
Michael Brennan (LLB ’94, GDLP ’95) AM
Mr Brennan has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the law, and to community organisations.
Peta-Louise Credlin (GDLP ‘10) AO
Ms Credlin has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to parliament and politics, to policy development, and to the executive function of government.
Harriet Elvin (GradDipIntLaw ’86, MBA ’97, GradDipArts ’07) AM
Ms Elvin has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to arts administration in the Australian Capital Territory and to the community.
Anna Harmer (Bec ’97, LLB ’99) PSM
Ms Harmer has been awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service to law reform, and through leading the Office of the Royal Commission into Natural Disaster Arrangements.
Andrew Lu (SJD ’11) OAM
Dr Lu has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for significant service to the visual and performing arts, to the law, and to legal education.
Merrin Mason (BA ’82, LLB ’87) PSM
Ms Mason has been awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service to law reform in Victoria.
Christine McLoughlin (BA ’84, LLB ’86) AM
Ms McLoughlin has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to business, to the not-for-profit sector, and to women.
Robyn O’Donnell (GradDipMilLaw ’13, LLM ’17) CSC
Lieutenant Colonel O’Donnell has been awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross (CSC) for outstanding achievement as the Chief Legal Officer, Army Headquarters.
Anne Twomey (LLM Public Law ’96) AO
Professor Twomey has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the law, to legal education, and to public education on constitutional matters.
James Waddell (LLM ’98) OAM
Colonel Waddell has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for meritorious performance of duty as Director of Operations and Security Law and as Director of Army Legal Services for the Australian Defence Force.
