The next seminar in the ANU Media Law seminar series will be delivered by Sharon Rodrick, Lesley Power, and Brendan Clift, co-authors of the leading text, Australian Media Law (6th ed, 2021). They will speak on ‘Topical Issues in Media Law’.
Sharon Rodrick is Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law at Monash University, and has been the co-author of the authoritative text, Australian Media Law, with the late Professor Des Butler. Two of her co-authors of the latest edition of this text will be joining her for this seminar: Brendan Clift, Teaching Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and Lesley Power, media law specialist with over 20 years’ experience. In this seminar, Sharon Rodrick and her colleagues will be talking about such topical issues as ‘online safety’, defamation reforms and effects on political communication, and open justice during COVID-19.

The ANU Media Law seminar series aims to foster research and research-led teaching in all aspects of media law, including defamation, court reporting, parliamentary reporting, privacy, freedom of expression, and journalistic standards.
As the rapid and often disruptive development of information technology continues to affect media law, it is all the more important that the discipline of media law demonstrate it retains theoretical and doctrinal rigour.
The seminar series brings together leading scholars, judges and practitioners in the field, and hosts discussions on developments in all areas of media law, including guest speakers and research in progress, in Australia and overseas. Seminars are open to all members of College and the College’s networks, as well as all HDR students.
