Bridging the gap between legal activism and academic scholarship
Social justice

The Anthem Studies in Law Reform book series aims to influence future law reform and promote greater social justice across all areas of law and jurisdictions.

I am very excited to have joined the College, especially in light of its rich tradition of promoting social justice and contributing to law reform.

Dr Faith Gordon, a Senior Lecturer at The Australian National University (ANU) College of Law, has accepted an invitation to join the international editorial board of a new book series focusing on law reform.

The Anthem Studies in Law Reform book series aims to bridge the gap between legal activism and academic scholarship by publishing a series of short titles exploring why and how a particular area of law needs to be reformed. The editorial board are looking to publish books by academics advocating for law reform, as well as those that analyse particular reforms that are already under discussion.

The ANU College of Law has a long-standing reputation for shaping and influencing social justice and law reform activities—an important draw card for Dr Gordon when she first joined the College in September last year.

"I am very excited to have joined the College, especially in light of its rich tradition of promoting social justice and contributing to law reform, through research, advocacy and encouraging our students to engage actively in these important spaces, which have the potential to see much-needed change for the most marginalised and hidden social groups,” Dr Gordon said.

“The work of the Law Reform and Social Justice Initiative, under the direction of Associate Professor Matthew Zagor, is one important example of the vital work that is already being done to integrate law reform and the principles of social justice into teaching, research and study across the College.

“I hope that my colleagues will have ideas to contribute as part of this new series. I am honoured to be invited onto the editorial board, along with a number of inspiring colleagues from overseas."

Scholars who are interested in contributing to this new book series are encouraged to get in touch with Dr Gordon or contact the Series Editor, Professor Russell Sandberg at sandbergr@cardiff.ac.uk.

“Given that the series covers all jurisdictions and all areas of law, I’ve been looking for outstanding scholars from a range of countries and with a range of research interests who are passionate about legal research and its wider dissemination,” Professor Sandberg said.

“Dr Faith Gordon was one of the first names that came to mind—the author of a rich and powerful body of work who is clearly a rising star.

“I’m delighted that she has agreed to join our board."
