Event description

Join the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Centre for Military and Security Law, ANU College of Law for the launch of a new video exploring international humanitarian law (IHL) in action.

IHL in action is, for the large part, invisible. We don’t see the stories of the pilots who decided not to drop a bomb after assessing that too many people would be harmed. We don’t see footage of health workers crossing frontlines in conflict to provide essential health care.

With a keynote from the Director of International Law and Policy, Dr Helen Durham, this launch event will delve into when IHL works, through real stories and experiences.

The ICRC is an independent, neutral organisation ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for people impacted by armed conflict and other situations of violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and at the same time promotes respect for IHL and its implementation in national law.

Please note that this is a hybrid event. If you are unable to attend in person, Zoom registration is available.
