Law, Science, Technology and Society Hub

The LSTS Hub enables foundational research on the role of law in ordering, interpreting and regulating scientific and technological work. We are interested in enabling conversation across often-siloed fields, disciplines and approaches, and in collectively exploring the significance of scientific and technological change for law more broadly.

We host regular events, workshops, and labs where members and affiliates can discuss recent and ongoing projects and current developments, build research community, and train the next generation of scholars. In 2026, the Hub will be chaired by Dr Anna Saunders.

About Us

The Hub offers a platform for foundational, interdisciplinary, and socially-oriented research on law, science, and technology in society. We enable research exploring the role of law in ordering, interpreting and regulating scientific and technological work, and the significance of this work for law and legal institutions. We are based within ANU Law School in the College of Law, Governance and Policy, and open to members from across disciplines working on questions of law, science and technology in society.

Members of the Hub are leading experts across a wide range of subject matters, including bioethics and genomics, privacy and data in an algorithmic age, the reception and interpretation of scientific evidence in legal processes, and laws governing information flows and scientific and technological cooperation across borders. Our members collaborate with scholars and practitioners from backgrounds including history, genetics, sociology, media studies and computer science.

The activities of the Hub include hosting regular ‘labs’ or meetings where members can discuss their ongoing work and events in this space and provide peer-to-peer mentoring. We also host an LSTS Fellow, lecture and masterclass once-yearly. If you are interested in becoming an LSTS Fellow, you can write to us at lsts.law@anu.edu.au.
