Stephen Free SC is a highly accomplished barrister with a national practice encompassing a wide range of trial and appellate work in State and Federal courts and tribunals. Admitted to the Bar in 2006 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2018, he specialises in complex public and commercial law matters, including significant experience in class actions, competition law, civil penalty proceedings, planning and regulatory disputes.
Mr. Free has acted in some of Australia’s most significant constitutional and commercial cases and regularly appears before the High Court of Australia, Federal Court and the Supreme Court of New South Wales. His exceptional academic record includes University Medals in Law and History earned during his Undergraduate Scholarship studies at the Australian National University, followed by the Vinerian Scholarship for achieving first place in his Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at Oxford University (Magdalen College), where he continued his studies on a Commonwealth Scholarship and obtained an MPhil with Distinction.
