Dr Christopher Ward SC is a Senior Counsel at the NSW Bar and Head of Chambers at 6 St James Hall Chambers in Sydney. He works as an advocate and advisor in public international law and related issues. He has particular expertise as an advocate in cases which involve the domestic and international law interface, and has worked regularly in areas as diverse as human rights, international criminal law, maritime and land boundaries and diplomatic immunity. He also regularly accepts instructions in appellate and significant commercial and public law matters. As an advocate he has appeared successfully before international arbitral tribunals, the International Court of Justice and all major Australian courts and tribunals, including the High Court of Australia.
Dr Ward is Global Vice-Chair and Past President of the International Law Association and sits on a number of international law committees. He is an Associate Member of 3 Verulam Buildings Barristers in Gray's Inn, London, and an Associate Fellow at Chatham House.
Dr Ward is an Honorary Professor at the Australian National University. His particular teaching and research interests are in postgraduate international law, disputed maritime boundaries, sovereign immunities, sanctions, international arbitration and human rights.
