Join GreenLaw and the Law Reform and Social Justice Program (LRSJ) in the launch of the first ever comprehensive Practical Guide to Law and Protests in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

The Practical Guide to Law and Protests in the ACT is the territory's first comprehensive resource to assist the public in safely navigating their involvement in non-violent public actions.

The Guide aims to ensure the ACT community is able to exercise their rights to political communication and be active participants in Australia’s vibrant democracy. The Guide provides a practical overview of the major legal areas protest organisers are required to navigate to safely plan and carry out a peaceful protest, from required approvals to police powers to defamation. It is a year-long voluntary effort with a dedicated team of Australian National University (ANU) College of Law students and academics.

This evening event is an opportunity to network with the students involved in the drafting of the guide as well as researchers, professionals and advocates in the criminal and environmental justice spaces. Canapes and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

You will have the chance to hear from Professor Sally Wheeler OBE, Dean of the ANU College of Law; Associate Professor Matthew Zagor, Director of the Law Reform and Social Justice Program; and the Honourable Shane Rattenbury, Attorney-General of the Australian Capital Territory.

You will also be able to partake in a guided Q+A session with Annika Reynolds, Founder and CEO of GreenLaw; and Vanessa Sporne, the Lead Researcher of the Practical Guide.
