The Law Reform and Social Justice Group is hosting Dr Helen Watchirs OAM(MPubLaw '92, PhD '02), President and Human Rights Commissioner of the ACT Human Rights Commission in the second installment of the Justice Careers Q&A series.

Dr Watchirs will talk about her journey through University, her career, passions and advocacies, and will provide some insights to assist current students who want to pursue pathways into humanitarian sectors of the law.

MPubLaw '92, PhD '02

For over 33 years, Dr Helen Watchirs has dedicated her career to improving human rights and ending discrimination. She was appointed the ACT Human Rights Commissioner in 2004 and has worked on human rights audits of detention facilities and discrimination complaints. She has national and international expertise in health and human rights issues, particularly in HIV and AIDS issues. She is a former member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Blood Borne Viruses and Sexually Transmissible Infections and former member of several advisory bodies on organ and tissue donation.

She is currently the President & Human Rights Commissioner at the ACT Human Rights Commission.
