The International Students Orientation Program consists of a series of visits to various key sites and landmarks in Canberra and on-campus sessions to introduce international and inbound exchange students to Australian institutions that are relevant to the study of law.

The program runs throughout Semester Two, 2023, and a bus will be provided to transport registered participants to off-campus locations, except to the ACT Supreme Court where we will walk across campus.

Week One: Research Skills and Referencing Advice

Venue: Phillipa Weeks Staff Library

Join Anne Newton from ANU College of Law Library to learn about what library resources are available, what assistance you can request, the types of legal research training available and the required referencing skills to assist you throughout your studies.
 

Week Two: Assessment, Examination Advice and Academic Integrity

Venue: Law Lecture Theatre (near the Law Library)

You cannot afford to miss this compulsory session with ANU College of Law academics Dr Michelle Worthington and Associate Professor Wayne Morgan on how to best prepare for examinations and assessments. Associate Professor Morgan is also the Associate Dean Education and will provide you with valuable insight into our assessment process and discuss the importance of academic integrity.

Week Three: High Court of Australia

Venue: High Court of Australia

An opportunity not to be missed! Join ANU College of Law Head of School, Professor James Stellios on a tour of the High Court of Australia – the highest court in the Australian judicial system. Professor Stellios is one of Australia’s leading experts in constitutional law.

Week Four: Essay Writing Techniques and Skills to Simplify Legal Writing

Venue: ANU Moot court

Come along and listen to ANU College of Law Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) Coordinator as they provide you with expert advice to assist you in developing the key academic skills and communication strategies that are foundational to all academic activity and ultimately, success!

Week Five: ACT Supreme Court

Venue: ACT Supreme Court

Do not miss out on this opportunity to meet ANU College of Law Associate Professor Heather Roberts. During this session, you will also learn about the role and function of the Supreme Court.

Week Six: Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House)

Venue: Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House)

Join ANU College of Law Associate Professor Ron Levy on this visit to the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House); a national icon, a place of great beauty, magnificent design and historical significance. Associate Professor Levy is an expert on public law and political theory and this experience promises to provide students with incredible insight into Australia’s constitutional law.

Week Seven: Parliament House of Australia

Join ANU College of Law Associate Professor Ryan Goss on this exciting venture to Parliament House where you will get to experience Australia's robust democracy in action. Associate Professor Goss is an expert in Australian public law.
