Event description

The International Students Orientation Program consists of a series of excursions, workshops and meetings on campus to various key sites and landmarks in Canberra to introduce international and exchange students to Australian politics and culture which would be useful in the study of Australian law.

The program runs weekly throughout Semester 1 and includes a combination of on- and off-campus sessions. A bus will be provided to transport registered participants to off-campus locations. Places are limited.

The International Students Orientation Program will run again in Semester 2 to accommodate international students who start mid-year.

(Week 1) Welcome to ANU - Online

Join Associate Professor Joshua Neoh for the first session of the International Students Orientation Program. This session will provide participants with the opportunity to meet other students and discuss their first week at ANU in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.

(Week 2) Examination & assignment tips- Online

As a new law student, preparing for law school examinations or starting on assignments may seem daunting. The academic and learning team as well as high-achieving students will share their best tips and tricks on how you can get ready to get the marks you deserve.

(Week 3) Off-campus: Field trip to Parliament House

Law tour

Join us for an excursion to Parliament House! During this session, you will be taken by bus to Parliament House where you will get to experience Australia's robust democracy in action via a guided tour.  

Places on the bus are limited. Registration essential.

Pick up location

The bus will pick students up from outside the ANU College of Law (5 Fellows Road) at 10am. The bus will return students to the College at 12pm.

(Week 4) Homecoming Lunch

Join the ANU College of Law and the ANU Law Students' Society for a delicious lunch as we celebrate coming back on campus.

This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow students and the academic staff in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

(Week 5) Off campus: Field trip to National Gallery of Australia

Venue: National Gallery of Australia

Join us for an excursion to the National Gallery of Australia! During this session, you will be taken by bus to the National Gallery of Australia where you will get to experience Australian art and culture, specifically Indigenous art and culture.

(Week 7) On campus: Introduction to mooting

Join the ANU College of Law and the Law Students' Society (LSS) for an introduction to mooting.

Learn from seasoned professionals on the best ways to make your submissions and improve your advocacy skills.

'Check out' someone from an international background at the International Human Library!

Everyone is a walking story. The International Human Library is an opportunity to learn about the experiences of various people at ANU. Just like a library, attendees will get the opportunity to 'borrow' a range of people, from academics to students and learn how studying law as an international student has shaped their lives.

(Week 9) Off Campus: Field trip to High Court of Australia

Venue: High Court of Australia

Join us for an excursion to the High Court of Australia! During this session, you will be taken by bus to the High Court of Australia, where the staff will lead you through the Great Hall, which includes an educational display and video area, and often features exhibitions or performances by cultural organisations; and the three courtrooms, which are the focus of the building's activities.
