Military Law

Are you an Australian Defence Force legal officer seeking postgraduate legal education?

The Australian Defence Force’s Military Law Centre (MLC) has responsibility for the coordination, formulation and delivery of legal training and education necessary for the professional development of legal officers in the Australian Defence Force.

The ANU College of Law delivers postgraduate legal education to ADF legal officers through our Military Law Program which provides the legal education requirements for the LTM 2 and LTM 3 levels of the ADF scheme.

These programs of study are solely for Defence personnel nominated for enrolment by the MLC.
The ANU College of Law cannot take applications for enrolment directly from the public.

The Military Law programs which can be studied by MLC nominated Defence personnel are:

  • Graduate Certificate of Military Law (Program code: 6319XCMILL) = LTM2
  • Graduate Diploma of Military Law (Program code: 6320XGMILL) = LTM2 & LTM3
  • Master of Military Law  (Program code: 7316XMMIL = LTM3
  • Master of Laws (Program code: MLLM)

The Master of Laws (LLM) program is separate from the Military Law Program. Students may be permitted to use their advanced military law courses towards fulfilling LLM requirements, but it is up to the Director of the LLM Program to approve the transfer from the Military Law Program (MML) to the LLM, and to approve credit for work undertaken in LTM3 subjects.

For more information about the Military Law program contact the Student Administration Team or +61 2 6125 3965.

The research capability of the Centre for Military and Security Law complements this postgraduate teaching program.
