Overview
This project seeks to combine research interests around national security law and citizenship law. Its main objective is to unravel Australia’s security vetting system/s from both a national security perspective, and a citizenship framework. When using the term citizenship, we mean both in a formal sense, relating to the laws and status around citizenship, as well as in the normative sense, of active citizenship, regarding participation in the public service, and more broadly in the sphere of the Executive.
The project will develop Australia’s research capacity around security issues, and also improve institutional arrangements around balancing security needs against the benefits of having a diverse (in terms of citizenship of the public service/executive) and engaged public service.
