Covering an array of topical, relevant and cross-disciplinary areas, research activity at the ANU College of Law is guided by three core themes. Responding to existing and emerging issues, our research themes work independently and collectively, ensuring the research activity of the College continues to be among the best in the world.

Governance, rights & regulation

Those areas of law that provide the framework for government, citizens, commerce and consumers to operate, including constitutional law, administrative law, corporations law, consumer law.

Global transitions

Those areas of law that are changing as the actions of individuals and individual nations intersect, including migration law, security law, climate law, public international law, law and development, the legal profession.

Ideas of law, lawyering & justice

Those areas of law that help ensure equity, equality and ethical approaches, including legal theory, law and religion, law and humanities, law and justice, legal history, legal ethics and animal law.
