Deliberative Deomocracy - compelling new book
Dr Ron Levy, Justice Peter Applegarth and Prof Graeme Orr

Deliberative democracy offers solutions to crises of modern democracy

Dr Ron Levy from the ANU College of Law has co-authored a book with University of Queensland’s Graeme Orr on The Law of Deliberative Democracy. Justice Peter Applegarth of the Supreme Court of Queensland recently launched the book.

Dr Levy is a Senior Lecturer at the College and co-director of the Project on Deliberative Governance and Law. Deliberative democracy offers solutions to crises of modern democracy, such as declining public trust in political institutions. The book is the first to trace law’s effects on political deliberation in detail. The authors contend that deliberative democracy has yet to penetrate legal consciousness and law has yet to be taken seriously by deliberative democrats, and they believe it is incumbent on both sides to bridge their two solitudes.
