The Australian National University (ANU) is seeking input to help name three streets in the revitalised Union Court. These new street names will recognise the role that women have played in shaping Australia's national university. ANU students, staff and alumni have until Wednesday 1 November 2017 to provide suggestions.
Suggestions can include the names of any women who have made a significant contribution to ANU, but is limited to people no longer working for or studying at the University. These suggestions will all be sent to the ANU Naming Committee for consideration.
The working names for the streets up for naming are North Loop Road, West Loop Road and Chifley Lane. The naming committee has also enlisted the support of undergraduate student, Sydney Farey, who has reviewed the history of ANU and has developed a long list of names of people that could be recognised. The Naming Committee will then consider all of the suggestions at their next meeting and will develop a shortlist for an online vote to determine the final names.
When complete, the revitalised Union Court will be a place where our community comes together to connect, to engage and share ideas. A vibrant space that becomes an incubator for innovation, learning and research and offers the very best in entertainment, arts and culture.
To create this environment, names for the precinct - including streets, buildings and outdoor places will need to represent our community, our heritage and our vision for the future.
