Dear Colleagues,

This is the first of many emails you will receive with updates on the progress of our building renovation.

Building plans

The design team is currently working to finalise the architectural plans for the building and we expect to present those to you by the end of May.

Temporary accommodation

The first area to be renovated is the North Wing (building 6) and we need to vacate the building by mid-September. Decanting will take place from mid-August to mid-September. The top level of Menzies library is no longer available as a decanting space. Instead, K Block and H Block will serve as our temporary accommodation.

We are maintaining the original decanting plan where:

• We will try to keep permanent academic staff in the remaining two wings of our building throughout the renovation process
• The Marketing Team and the IT Team will move out
• All PhD students will move to open plan office spaces
• Emeritus and Honorary members who are not regular or frequent occupants will also be temporarily relocated
• NJCA will be moved to a suitable space
• Any staff in the Link Wing or the South Wing who are not using their office space on a full time basis will be considered, with their consultation, for sharing or some other arrangements during this period.

We will advise staff of the planned new room allocations in the coming weeks. If you do not require a room during this period, or would like to arrange to share a room with a colleague, please let me know asap.

Fellows Road Law Theatre

Fellows Road Law Theatre will be unavailable for use throughout the North Wing redevelopment period - September June 2017 to July 2018.

Site visits

You should expect to see frequent site visits by staff from the Facilities & Services, Shaw Building and other building contractors. In the next couple of days there will be surveyors doing the topological and underground surveys. They will be working externally.
