Some time has passed since the last building update email and you can expect these updates to become more frequent as we progress with the building project.
The building plans have been approved by all the relevant University committees and we are excited to show you what the renovated building will look like. You are invited to a presentation by the design team on Wednesday, 30 August 2017 at 1.00pm in the Fellows Road Theatre 2. If you can’t make it to the presentation, the plans and photos will be also available on the intranet.
I take this opportunity to thank the Building User Group (BUG) and all involved in the consultation process as we now move to an exciting new building stage.
All colleagues moving for phase one of building renovation have been informed of their temporary accommodation and some colleagues have already vacated their offices in the North Wing (building 6). Thank you for your effort so far in cleaning up and packing your office. If you haven’t started yet, I’d like to encourage you to start soon. Please contact the Services Office if you need boxes and a blue bin for the rubbish.
The decanting spaces will be ready by mid-October and that is when we expect to start moving people to their new accommodation. The spaces available for our temporary accommodation are: K Block (the green building behind the Law building), H Block (the yellow building next to Menzies Library) and a new transportable building to be placed in the space available between K Block and H Block. That area already has a building occupied by the Dictionary Centre and another building will house the Muslin Prayer Room. Shaw Building will also use that space to build their site office. In a few weeks there will be a ‘village’ built in that space!
When decanting is completed, the ‘Our People’ page will be updated to reflect the room moves.
None of the carparks around our the Law building will be closed during phase one of renovation.
Fellows Road Law Theatres
Fellows Road Law Theatres will be unavailable for use from October until completion of the North Wing redevelopment.
Site visits and building works
Shaw Building has taken possession of two rooms in the North Wing to undertake preliminary investigative work. Their work won’t interfere with the operation of our building. Expect to see frequent site visits by staff from the Facilities & Services, Shaw Building and other building contractors from now on.
If you have any concern, please contact me.
