Becoming an Associate to a Judge is very competitive and highly coveted. Hear five ANU Law alumni share their experiences of working as Associates at the High Court, Federal Court and the Supreme Courts of the ACT and NSW. 

They will cover:

  • Will Bateman »

    Will Bateman (BA ’08, LLB (Hons) ’08, GDLP ’09) – served as the Associate to the Hon Justice Stephen Gageler AC of the High Court of Australia and the Hon Justice Steven Rares of the Federal Court of Australia. He recently joined the ANU Law School as a senior lecturer. 

  • Pauline Bomball »

    Pauline Bomball (BEc ’10, LLB (Hons) ’10, GDLP ’12) – served as the Associate to the Hon Justice Virginia Bell AC of the High Court of Australia in 2011. Following her Associateship, Pauline joined the ANU Law School as a lecturer.

  • Radhika Chaudhri »

    Radhika Chaudhri (BA ’12, LLB (Hons) ’12, LLM ’14) – served as the Associate to the Hon Chef Justice James Allsop of the Federal Court of Australia in 2014. She has also worked at Canberra Community Law specialising in social security and tenancy law and has recently joined the ANU Law School. 

  • Jennifer Darmody »

    Jennifer Darmody (BFin ’15, LLB (Hons) ’15) – served as the Tipstaff to the Hon Justice James Stevenson in 2016. She has worked as a solicitor at King & Wood Mallesons in Sydney and recently transferred to the Canberra office. 

  • Stephen Priest »

    Stephen Priest (BAsiaStud ’12, LLB (Hons) ’12, GDLP ’14) – served as the Associate to the Hon Justice Refshauge of the Supreme Court of the ACT in 2013. He has worked for the Commonwealth public service in a variety of roles including the Department of Finance and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
