Anne Gallagher AO appointed Director-General of the Commonwealth Foundation

Following a rigorous selection process and approval from its 46 member states, Anne Therese Gallagher AO has been announced Director-General of the Commonwealth Foundation, the Commonwealth’s agency for civil society.

Wootton presented with prestigious Bar Prize

Naomi Wootton, BA ’16, LLB (Hons) ‘16

Naomi Wootton has been awarded the 2019 Katrina Dawson Award from the NSW Bar Association. Naomi is the Associate to the Hon Justice Virginia Bell AC, and previously served as Tipstaff and Research Director in the Chambers of the Hon Tom Bathurst AC.

Hamish Macpherson, BA '92, LLB (Hons) '94, GDLP '95

Hamish Macpherson has been appointed a Partner with King & Wood Mallesons in the dispute resolution practice of the Sydney office. He was previously a partner at White & Case and specialises in construction and infrastructure litigation.

Finch moves to Jones Day

Shannon Finch, BA (Hons) '92, LLB (Hons) '94

Shannon Finch has been appointed a Partner in the Jones Day Sydney office as part of the M&A practice. She is a former partner at King & Wood Mallesons, spending almost 25 years with the firm including five years as partner-in-charge of the Sydney office.

Lauren Piscioneri has joined Colin Biggers & Paisley as a Senior Associate in the Melbourne office. She previously worked for Lander & Rogers and is a specialist in employment practices liability and occupational health and safety.

Lawton appointed to the ACT Magistrates Court

James Lawton, BA ’95, LLB ’98, GDLP ’98

James Lawton has been appointed a Magistrate in the ACT Magistrates Court. He has previously worked for the ACT Legal Aid Office Criminal Law Section, as a Senior Advocate at the ACT Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and as a Barrister.

Claire Carton, BA '99, LLB '00

Claire Carton has been announced as a Finalist in the category Law Firm Leader of the Year (<200 Lawyers) in the 2019 Australasian Law Awards. She is the Managing Partner of Griffin Legal in Canberra.

Six alumni have been announced as Finalists in the Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year category in the 2019 Australasian Law Awards. This includes Alex Solo, Flora Ma, Hannah Catherine Morris, Julia Taylor, Sunny Jong and Tomoyuki Hachigo.

Lu appointed to WA State Administrative Tribunal

Dr Andrew Lu OAM FAAL, SJD '11

Dr Andrew Lu has been appointed the newest sessional member of the WA State Administrative Tribunal. He is the first Asian Australian lawyer appointed to the tribunal. He is currently also a Partner with HBA Legal.

Flint joins Geocon

Mark Flint, BA (Hons) '85, LLB (Hons) '86

Mark Flint has been appointed as Geocon's new general counsel. He has over 25 years' experience in the areas of planning, development and construction. He has previously worked for All Homes Pty Ltd, Bradley Allen, Meyer Vandenberg and Mills Oakley.
