Kerri Hartland promoted to Secretary

Kerri Hartland, MLegStud’ 96

Kerri Hartland has been promoted to Secretary of the Department of Employment. She has extensive experience across the Commonwealth Government and was the first woman to serve as Deputy Director-General of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.

Smith announced as Director of Whitlam Institute

Leanne Smith, BA (AsianStudies) '97, LLB (Hons) '98

The Whitlam Institute at Western Sydney University has appointed Leanne Smith as its new Director. She brings over 20 years experience as an international human rights lawyer, former Australian diplomat and senior United Nations official.

Liz Huang Hughes-Brown honoured with 2017 President’s Medal

Liz Huang Hughes-Brown , BAsianStudies ’02, LLB (Hons) ’03, GDLP ’05, GCertAusMigLaw ’16

Liz Huang Hughes-Brown was presented with the 2017 ACT Law Society’s President’s Medal which recognises significant contributions to the law and justice in the ACT community. Liz is a former refugee who is now the Principal Lawyer of Welcome Legal.

Belinda Miller named as 2017 ACT Young Lawyer of the Year

Belinda Miller, BAsiaPacStudies ’13, LLB (Hons) ’13, GDLP ‘16

Belinda Miller has been recognised with the 2017 ACT Young Lawyer of the Year Award. She is an Employment and Discrimination Lawyer at the Women’s Legal Centre and is a mentor to many female law students in the ACT.

Crennan appointed Managing Partner at CBP

Nick Crennan has been announced as the next Managing Partner of Colin Biggers & Paisley from 1 October. He has been with the firm for almost 30 years including as Partner in the construction and engineering group and Deputy Head of the group.

Tiroyakgosi appointed Botswanan DPP

Stephen Tiroyakgosi, LLM '99

Stephen Tiroyakgosi has been appointed as the new Bostwanan Director of Public Prosecutions. He has over 26 years experience as a lawyer including serving as the Secretary for International and Commercial Services at the Deputy Attorney General Level.

Andrew Crocker has been promoted to Special Counsel at HWL Ebsworth. Andrew is based in the Melbourne office and specialises in workplace relations and safety.

Anderson featured in historic photo of women in law

Louise Anderson, BA '84, LLB '92

Louise Anderson is one of the 21 women featured in a photo of Australian women who hold the most powerful legal positions. She is currently CEO of the Supreme Court of Victoria and was previously Registrar of the Social Security Appeals Tribunal.

Woolcott appointed Chief of Staff

Peter Woolcott AO , BA '76, LLB '77

Peter Woolcott AO has been appointed Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of Australia. He will commence on 4 September. He has held many senior diplomatic appointments and was most recently Australia’s High Commissioner to New Zealand.
