Drumgold announced as ACT DPP

Shane Drumgold, LLM '04

Shane Drumgold has been appointed as the new ACT Director of Public Prosecutions. He has more than 16 years of experience and is currently the Deputy Director of the ACT office. He will commence the role on January 1 for a seven-year term.

Three alumni appointed Partner at Sparke Helemore

Various Alumni,

Three ANU Law alumni, Ben Nicholls (BComm ’98, LLB ’00, LLM ’05), Sharon Rowe (LLB ’00, GDLP ’00, LLM ’07) and Liana Westcott (BA ’04, LLB ’05, GDLP ’07, LLM ‘14), have been appointed to Partner as part of Sparke Helmore’s government team in Canberra.

Minchin appointed to Foreign Investment Review Board

Nick Minchin, BEc ’75, LLB ‘77

The Hon Nick Minchin has been appointed to the Foreign Investment Review Board. He was the former consul-general in New York and former Howard government Minister. His five-year term starts on 17 December 2018.

Lisa Qin has been announced as the recipient of the 2018 Young Australia China Alumni of the Year Award. She is an Education Officer with UNICEF and is a recognised leader in childhood education policy.

Arora appointed to Keypoint Law

Neil Arora , BComm ’03, LLB (Hons) ‘03

Neil Arora has been appointed a consulting principal of Keypoint Law in the Sydney office. He has a background in immigration law, having held senior legal roles with Kemp Strang, Peter Linnette Lawyers and the Department of Home Affairs.

Harris named Mentor of the Year

Jennifer Harris, BA '94, LLB '96

Jennifer Harris has been named as Mentor of the Year in the 2018 'Lawyers Weekly' Women in Law Awards. She is Special Counsel at Clayton Utz Sydney office. This is the second time she has won the award her outstanding mentoring.

Yates awarded Peter Nygh Internship

Sophie Yates, BA '17, LLB (Hons) '17

Sophie Yates has received the prestigious Peter Nygh internship from the Australian Institute of International Affairs. She will spend several months at the Hague Conference in 2019. She is the seventh graduate from ANU Law to have received the Internship.

Marson receives 2018 Churchill Fellowship

Katrina Marson, BA '12, LLB (Hons) '12, GDLP '13

Katrina Marson has received the 2018 Peter Mitchell Churchill Fellowship. She will use the Fellowship to research new, practical and effective methods to prevent sexual violence through youth education in a variety of European and North American countries.

Armstrong appointed Supreme Court judge and President of NCAT

The Hon Justice Lea Armstrong , BA (Hons) ’89, LLB (Hons) ’90

Lea Armstrong has been appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of NSW and President of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT). She was previously NSW’s first female Crown Solicitor and NSW Treasury’s first General Counsel.

Chin-Leong Tan appointed Race Discrimination Commissioner

Chin-Leong Tan, LLB '87

Chin-Leong Tan, a lawyer with over 20 years’ experience has been appointed as the new Race Discrimination Commissioner. He was most recently the director of multicultural engagement at Swinburne University.
