Choudhury receives 2019 Churchill Fellowship

Farzana Choudhury, GDLP '14, LLM '16

Farzana Choudhury has received a Churchill Fellowship for her project, 'Empowering people facing poverty through social and housing status rights-based models'. She will review overseas poverty discrimination law frameworks to inform practice in Australia.

Choudhury awarded ACT Young Lawyer of the Year

Farzana Choudhury, GDLP '14, LLM '16

Farzana Choudhury has received the 2019 ACT Young Lawyer of the Year Award at the ACT Law Society Awards. She is a Senior Solicitor with Canberra Community Law's Street law program, which assists people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Kukulies-Smith was presented with the 2019 President’s Medal

Michael Kukulies-Smith, LLB (Hons) '03, BA (Hons) '03

Michael Kukulies-Smith was presented with the President’s Medal at 2019 ACT Law Society awards. He is one of Canberra’s most experienced criminal lawyers, and has been deeply involved in local law development and reform.

The 2019 Government Law Award was presented to Michael Deasey at the ACT Law Society Awards. The award was established to provide local recognition, including at a senior level, of the outstanding achievements of practitioners working in or for government.

Arias-Alvarez appointed as Associate Director of ERA Legal

Nelson Arias-Alvarez, GDLP '09

Nelson Arias-Alvarez and Mark Yum, who were previously partners and practice group leaders of the construction and infrastructure practice group at boutique national law firm, Madison Marcus have been tasked to head the ERA Legal construction and projects.

Goerge Blades, LLB (Hons) '08

George Blades has been promoted to Managing Associate in the Allens Sydney Office. He specialises in Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution and has previously worked in a leading global firm in Japan and as Tipstaff to the Chief Justice of NSW.
