The College receives many requests for visits. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate
all who want to come. We therefore ask those who would like to visit the College
to follow an application procedure.
Duration
The College welcomes applications for periods from one week to six months.
In some circumstances a visit of up to one year may be approved. Visitors
for less than a week (such as seminar presenters) are normally not designated
as official visitors. Visitors are welcome to apply for an extension of their
visit one month before the termination of the initial appointment. In considering
an application for extension, the Visitors Committee will take account (amongst
other things) of the research results achieved and the visitor’s contribution
to the College during the initial period.
Fees and Charges
In contrast to many North American and European institutions, the ANU College
of Law does not normally charge Visitors any fees. Extraordinary expenses
incurred by Visitors, such as substantial postage, long-distance telephone
and copying charges, library fines, and the like are the responsibility of
the Visitor.
Decision
The College's Visitor Committee normally considers applications at meetings
in mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November. In exceptional cases,
urgent applications may be dealt with between meetings; but applications should
normally be made at least six months before the expected date of arrival.
It may not be possible to consider later applications. The applicant will
be notified as soon as the Committee has made a decision.
