Court of Justice Traineeship Program
Attention final year
students and graduates of up to five years standing.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has again
invited the ANU College of Law to present a list of
candidates for an ICJ student traineeship for 2011-2012,
following the ANU’s inaugural participation
in the scheme in 2006.
The Yuill Scholarship has been established by the
University to provide funding to support participation
in the traineeship scheme. Our four trainees so far
have been Rebecca
Jenkin (2006-2007), Robyn
Briese (2007-2008), Patrick
Delaney (2008-2009), Jennifer
Cavenagh (2009-2010) and Ellie
Fogarty (2010-2011).

Conditions
In brief:
- You work as an Associate to an ICJ judge
- The traineeship runs from 1 September 2011 through
30 June 2012
- Selection criteria: outstanding academic record in and commitment
to international law; also any relevant post-graduation experience
- Language skills: excellent English or French, and a very
good working knowledge of the other
- The ICJ takes no responsibility for financing the traineeship, or
for arranging travel or accommodation, or for insurance or for costs
arising from accident or illness
- The trainee is responsible for expenses in excess of the scholarship
amount
- The ANU selects a short list from which the ICJ chooses the successful
candidate
- Eligibility extends to current final year students and recent graduates
(up to 5 years out)
- The ICJ appears to favour recent graduates
Important dates:
- 27 January 2011:
Last day for receipt of applications (letter, resume, transcripts, references,
writing sample).
- Late January 2011:
ANU Selection Committee meets to determine short list of candidates
to go forward to ICJ.
- 14 February 2011:
Short list must be received by ICJ.
