ANU Careers Centre

The ANU Careers Centre is available to assist with a wide range of queries - from the general exploration of career ideas and the career implications of subject choices, to details of specific jobs, employers, or postgraduate courses. Our resources are available to current students and recent graduates. The ANU Careers Centre also provides employers with advice on recruitment strategies, how to maintain a profile on campus and assistance with targeting suitably qualified and motivated students and graduates.

Law Reform and Social Justice Project Officer

The ANU College of Law is seeking a Project Officer to support the role and activities of the Director of Reform and Social Justice.

The Project Officer's duties will be to:

1. research, monitor and report on current law reform activity in Australia and internationally
2. maintain and monitor a dedicated web presence for law reform and social justice at the ANU College of Law (with the support of the IT Unit)
3. research for articles, and for project and research proposals
4. support the Director in liaising with ANU and external agencies
5. support the Director and liaise with COAST in event planning and management.

The Project Officer will:

  • have substantially or wholly completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in law, humanities or the social sciences, or have relevant experience and education/training
  • be familiar with legal academic research processes and resources
  • have experience in website management have an enthusiasm law reform and social justice.

Conditions
This is a casual position with flexible working arrangements and a work load of up to 8 hours a week, paid according to the ANU pay scale.

If you are a self-starter interested in being part of a team working to put health consumers at the centre of health policy, this is an exciting opportunity for you.
The Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) is a dynamic non government organisation with a membership of over 200 health consumer groups seeking to shape Australia's health system by providing a national voice for health consumers.
CHF is seeking project officers to manage its exciting new projects in the areas of health technology assessment, quality use of medicines and pathology.
The position will involve policy development, consultation and communication with health consumers and representing CHF at forums with other health stakeholders.

Key criteria include:
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Experience in managing projects
* Ability to conduct consultations with a range of stakeholders
* Initiative, self-motivation and demonstrated experience in working in teams.

Desirable
* Experience in working with community-based organisations
* Relevant tertiary qualifications
* Understanding of consumer health issues

The Freilich Indigenous Student Scholarship in Law

The Freilich Indigenous Student Scholarship in Law is to assist people in the Indigenous Community who would like to attend University to obtain a degree in Law to further their career aspirations.The Freilich Scholarship is available to a person who:

  • Is a member of the Indigenous community in their first year of study;
  • Is a successful applicant for entry to the first year of a program of study leading to the award of Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or the Juris Doctor (JD) whether undertaken as a single degree or part of a combined program; and
  • is a citizen of or holds permanent resident status in Australia.

Legal Practice

If you want to be admitted as a legal practitioner in an Australian State or Territory, you must complete a practical legal training program or you can choose to do articles if you live in the states of VIC, QLD or WA. Legal Workshop at The Australian National University offers a specialised legal training program, the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice ('GDLP').

The Legal Workshop offers programs that:

  • provide for direct admission to practice in the NSW, NT, and ACT
  • have reciprocal arrangements for admission anywhere in Australia
  • meet a variety of students' and employers' needs. Students can enrol in programs which are offered face to face and online. Our online program allows you to complete the majority of our courses anywhere in Australia and worldwide.
