About the ARC Terrorism Project
Our Research Project started in 2004 with an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project. The Project is funded for the period 2004-2007 and is administered by the Faculty of Law, The Australian National University (ANU).
Our team consists of six chief investigators (CIs), an ARC Research Associate and a Project Associate. Most team members are based at the Faculty of Law and the National Europe Centre, ANU, with one team member based at the Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales (UNSW), and one at the Law School, University of New England (UNE). The perspectives we bring to the project include international law, criminal law, criminology, human rights and social psychology.
Combining these different perspectives, our research project aims at relocating the conceptual boundaries of discussion about anti-terrorism law in Australia. The research will enhance understanding of current reactions to terrorism and inform policy analysis and public debate over appropriate future responses.
Since the submission of the grant application, a number of CIs have published journal articles and book chapters on the themes of the project, have presented a number of conference and seminar papers and have been involved in public debate on the issue including in the media.
Our short- and mid-term activities include participation in seminars and workshops bringing together Australian institutions as well as individual scholars currently engaged in the same area, in or outside Canberra. In order to obtain additional feedback and ideas from colleagues on our work-in-progress, we are also convening an expert workshop on specific aspects of our project to be held in April 2006.
