THE PROGRAM
Students are required to complete the following four compulsory courses
to successfully complete the Program:
LAWS8167 Australian Migration Law and MARA
This introductory course must be undertaken first – alone or in conjunction
with the following course (LAWS8168 Australia's Visa System). It introduces
the Australian legal system with a focus on the legal structure for the regulation
of migration. The context of migration regulation is studied with an emphasis
on history. The role of migration agents, the philosophy of their profession
and their Code of Conduct are examined. Skills in the interpretation and application
of law and ethics are developed.
LAWS8168 Australia’s Visa System
The Australian migration system is based on having an appropriate visa to enter,
and remain in, Australia. Students will study the requirements for various visas,
how to apply for visas and alternative pathways to meet client needs.
LAWS8169 Visa Compliance, Cancellation and Review
Key parts of the regulation of migration are the systems for achieving compliance,
imposing sanctions for breaches, refusing visas and providing for merits and
judicial review of decisions. This course develops skills in identifying the
requirements and procedures for responding to the regulatory framework. Students
learn to appraise pathways, determine strategies and formulate submissions.
LAWS8170 Applied Migration Law and Practice
A successful migration agent needs not only technical skills
but also practical skills. These skills include information
retrieval, research, consultancy, advocacy, communication
and personal and professional development. This course develops
such skills and the ability to plan, organise and deliver
professional and effective immigration services.
