HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS AWARD
Each year, the Dutch government awards the Human Rights Defenders Tulip award to a person "who has shown exceptional moral courage in protecting and promoting the rights of fellow citizens". The winner receives an official commemorative statuette, an individual cash reward and the opportunity to submit a proposal to the value of EUR 100,000 to intensify the winner's work as a human rights defender.

Nominations for the 2009 award are currently open and must be received by 23 August 2009. The award is open to persons in Australia and the Pacific.
