GUIDELINES FOR DOMESTIC VISITING SCHOLARS AT NCIS

Funding: NCIS provides a fixed annual budget for the Visiting Scholar scheme. Funding for Visiting Scholars will normally will be on a 50:50 basis between NCIS and another University entity such as a College and will normally include travel to Canberra, accommodation at ANU and a weekly gratuity which may be varied upwards to $25.

Selection: At the beginning of each year NCIS will canvass ANU staff recommendations for the names of possible Visiting Scholars. Recommendations by ANU staff will imply a willingness on the part of the sponsor (as well as NCIS) to mentor and/or host the Visiting Scholar. Potential scholars will be invited, in conjunction with their sponsor, to apply to NCIS via the online application procedure. Consideration will be given to possible Visiting Scholars coming from outside academia e.g. environmental experts or community managers. NCIS may offer positions to Indigenous PhD students thought likely to benefit from a few weeks in a particular ANU centre.

Program: The Visiting Scholar will work closely with their sponsor on a nominated project. Scholars' activities may include lectures, seminars, meeting students and staff, presentations and production of academic papers.
