NCIS RESEARCH PRIORITIES


The National Centre for Indigenous Studies prioritises research centred on:

  • Indigenous engagement
  • Good Indigenous governance and policy
  • Issues of importance to Indigenous peoples globally
  • International human rights and social justice
  • Education on Indigenous issues
These priorities coincide with those of the national research priorities nominated by the Australian Research Council in the following areas:

An Environmentally Sustainable Australia - Issues of Indigenous Governance include:

- Environmentally Sustainable Australia
- Efficient and sustainable water use
- Significant land degradation issues such as salinity, protection of soil and groundwater resources

Promoting good health and wellbeing for all Australians - Law, rights and social justice issues include:

- Healthy start to life
- Ageing well, ageing productively
- Preventative healthcare
- Strengthening Australia's social and economic fabric

Safeguarding Australia - International Indigenous issues include:

- Understanding our region and the world
- Enhancing Australia's capacity to interpret and engage internationally via better understandings of language, society, politics and culture
