Indigenous Australia &
Science
18 March 2009, Canberra
Dr. Sarah Holcombe, Research Fellow at the
NCIS, facilitated a forum in the annual ‘Science
meets Parliament’ two-day-long event. The hour long
forum,
on the 18th March, focused on ‘Indigenous Australia &
Science’. Some of the themes covered were methodologies
for engagement and opportunities and challenges for Indigenous
people in science. Panel discussants included representatives
Dr Craig James from the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research
Centre, Mick Gooda of the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal
Health, Dr Dan Walker of CSIRO and Kerry Arabena of AIATSIS.
For 2 days each year at the ‘Science meets
Parliament’ annual event the federal Parliament ‘lives
and breathes science’, gathering up to 200 scientists
from around Australia along with federal parliamentarians for
this event.
