Social Justice News and Events
The social justice portfolio consists of the Vice President (Social Justice), Equity Officer, Disabilities Representative, Indigenous Representative, International Representative, Director of Research, Women's Representative and Sexuality Representative.
While it is a relatively new portfolio, we have a lot of exciting plans for 2009 to promote initiatives relating to issues of social justice.
We are launching the social justice portfolio this year with a movie night on Thursday March 5 at 6.30pm in the Sparke Helmore Theatre. We are screening the movie Invisible Children which is a documentary about the plight of child soldiers in Uganda. We encourage everyone, both law students and non-law students to come along to the event and also find out about what we have planned for the rest of the year. It'll also be a great opportunity to share your ideas for the portfolio with us.
Aside from this movie night, we have a couple of other major events planned for this year including the inaugural LSS Social Justice Dinner to be held at University House with a prominent guest speaker from the legal world. We are planning on continuing our Women in Law brunch which was a great success last year. Our final major event

planned is an Indigenous Forum in Term 4 which we hope to do in partnership with Doomagee which is a remote Indigenous community.
Aside from these events, we hope to hold forums, release the social justice internships guide and get the National Pro Bono Scheme off the ground this year.
If you have any other ideas or would like to get involved, please send me an email at u4395873@anu.edu.au.
Hopefully we'll see you at some point this year!
