Important information for all International students
The Education Services for Overseas
Students Act 2000 (Cth) requires international students on student visas to
do most of their study full time and by attending classes on campus. As the
Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the ANU Legal Workshop is only offered
online we can no longer accept foreign students on student visas into our programme.
The Education Services for Overseas
Students Act 2000 (Cth) does not apply to international students who do not
have a student visa. That is, foreign students who are overseas while studying
or those in Australia on anther type of visa (e.g. a business visa). Accordingly
we can accept these students into our programme.
The only exception is those
international students who are enrolled in an on campus course (for example
a Juris Doctor at another university or the ANU) and who have permission to
be concurrently enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the ANU
Legal Workshop. However, if these students finish the other course before they
finish their GDLP they will either have to go overseas or obtain another type
of visa (e.g. a business visa) while they finish their GDLP.

Important
Information for International Students
The Educational Services
for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 specifies the legislative arrangements
under which the ANU provides programs to overseas students. The Act also places
obligations and restrictions on students and universities for monitoring and
reporting on student progress. Detailed information on the Act can be obtained
from the following links:
International
Students who have completed their LLB
All International
Students who have completed their LLB must be enrolled on a full-time basis
in another program whether this is with the Australian National University or
another University to meet the requirements explained in the first paragraph
of this page. An ANU International Student must therefore be enrolled in the
equivalent of 18 units each session for ANU Legal Workshop. Any load less than
this will be in breach of the visa regulations and must be reported
to Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) leading to automatic
visa cancellation.
International
Students who have not completed their LLB
International
Students who have not completed their LLB and are undertaking their studies
fulltime on campus at another Australian university may undertake the GDLP part-time
without attendance on the ANU campus - this is subject to approval from home
university and ANU Legal Workshop.

How to apply
for the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
Forward completed International
Student Application form to:
Program Administrator
Legal Workshop
ANU College of Law
Building 5, Fellows Road
ACTON ACT 0200
NB. It is ANU University
policy that all international students send a $100.00 application fee
with their application. International Students will then receive an
offer letter from the university. Once you accept the offer it is important
that you pay the deposit immediately so your application can be processed. Delaying
this payment will slow down the processing of your application and enrolment
in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
