The Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) is
a flexible online program and can be completed in six months or over a three
year period.
The GDLP is made up of four components: 1. Becoming a Practitioner intensive 2. Professional Practice Core
3. Elective Coursework
4. Legal Practice Experience
More specific information regarding individual courses is available by searching
for the course on Study @.
Course loads do vary due to individal circumstances, however as a guide,
electives may require 10-15 hours of study per week.
The PPC may require 15-20 hours per week. It is recommended that students with
work/family/social commitments undertake the PPC as a stand-alone course.
Becoming a Practitioner Intensive
The GDLP begins with the Becoming a Practitioner Intensive, a one-week , a one-week course conducted face-to-face. This course is an important foundation and introduces the skills that students will require in order to complete the GDLP and become a competent practitioner. The Becoming a Practitioner Intensive is a compulsory prerequisite for beginning your other coursework.
The PPC course will
take place over an 18 week period (including 2 one week breaks) during which
students will work on line together within a simulated legal practice
environment to complete four projects:
- Professional Practice project
- Property Law project
- Civil Litigation project
- Commercial and Corporate project
These projects will be sequenced within the time frame.
The PPC will give students the opportunity to fulfil the following professional
competency areas and requirements:
- Lawyer's Skills
- Problem Solving
- Work Management and Business Skills
- Trust and Office Accounting
- Ethics and Professional Responsibility
- Civil Litigation Practice
- Commercial and Corporate Practice
- Property Law Practice
- Required workplace training
The projects involve students applying and extending
the skills introduced in Becoming a Practitioner.
The PPC aims to engage students in authentic
learning using an Integrated Learning Environment
(ILE), which simulates legal practice.
Legal Practice Experience
Legal Practice Experience involves a 20, 40, 60 or 80 day
placement in an approved legal environment. In order for your LPE status to be credited
towards your GDLP, you must submit an
Application
for Approval Form and a
Placement Report
before, during or after your placement. More information about this can be
found at
Legal Practice Experience
Elective Coursework and Course Load

circumstances. As a guide however, electives normally require 10-15 hours of
study per week. The
