Recent research
projects completed by research team members:
George
Barker has since 1992 overseen the development and implementation
of a programme of research involving a strategic review
of social policy in New Zealand. This involved the development
and management of a policy work programme, including direct
management responsibility for a team of 29 consultants and
2 staff, and responsibility for quality assurance on 15
other policy staffs work. This included the formulation
and assessment of alternative policy settings, provision
of advice to Ministers, and publication of reports.
John
Creedy has conducted research on behalf of the New Zealand
Treasury, using a special data set compiled from Inland
Revenue. The final report of this project was delivered
to Treasury in 1995. This report was subject to review by
both internal and external referees. Many of the other projects
completed by John are detailed in the publications listed
in his CV.

Tim Maloney
has conducted numerous research projects on behalf of the New Zealand Treasury
and other government ministries and agencies over the last eight years. Some

Study of the Cognitive Achievement and Educational Attainment
of Children in the Christchurch Health and Development Study.
The final report of this six-phase project was delivered
to Treasury in July 1999. All reports were subject to review
by both internal and external referees.
Estimating
the Labour Market Effects of the Employment Contracts Act.
The final report of this three-phase project was delivered
to Treasury in April 1997. All reports were subject to review
by both internal and external referees.

the Labour Market Effects of Benefit Reforms in New Zealand.
The final report of this three-phase project was delivered
to Treasury in July 1996. All reports were subject to review
by both internal and external referees.
China
and World Trade Organisation Project
The
Director of CLE Dr George Barker was Chief Investigator
under ARC Grant No. C79804936. Through this project CLE
has helped organise a major conference on March 17, 2001
and a series of publications to disseminate the results
of the research.
