DAVID J TEECE AustLEA SCHOLARS IN LAW AND ECONOMICS

The Australian Law & Economics Association (AustLEA), LECG and the Centre for Law and Economics at ANU are proud to present the David J Teece Law and Economics Scholarship. This scholarship is designed to promote research, scholarship and education in the economic analysis of law and legal institutions in universities around Australia through the recognition of emerging scholars in this field.

The scholarship has been made possible due to the generous support of Professor David J. Teece, Mitsubishi Bank Professor at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also directs the Institute of Management Innovation and Organisation and is Chairman of the Consortium for Research on Telecommunications Policy. In recent years, the scholarship recipient selection process has also been assisted by Judge of the Australian High Court and Patron of AustLEA, Justice Michael Kirby.

The scholarship is open to all undergraduate and post-graduate students who have an interest in law and economics and who were enrolled at the university in 2004. The law faculty and the economics faculty from each university will consult with one another to determine suitable candidates from either faculty for the scholarship. These candidates will then be asked to submit a recent piece of work reflecting their interest in the field of law and economics. This need not be an original piece of work, and may be some work that was completed to satisfy the requirements of their degree.

Once the submissions are received, the selection panel from the Australian Law and Economics Association will determine the students that satisfactorily demonstrate an engagement with the key ideas of law and economics. In recent years, the scholarship recipient selection process has also been assisted by Judge of the Australian High Court and Patron of AustLEA, Justice Michael Kirby.

The due date for the submission of candidates is the 6th of May, 2005. We ask that these students then submit their work to AustLEA by the 20th of May. Successful recipients of the scholarship will be notified by the middle of the June

Candidates may submit their work either via email or in hard copy.
