2009 CONFERENCE: Climate Change: Policy & Politics

The debate about the future international climate regime and the Federal Government's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme has raised questions about the objectives and mechanisms of climate policy in Australia. This one-day conference, featuring key figures in the climate debate from both the political and the policy arena, will illuminate the current state of play and where Australia and the international community are headed.

2008 Annual Conference: Adapting to Climate Change - Law and Policy

The CCLP convenes an annual climate law conference. The inaugural conference, Climate Law in Australia, was held in 2007 at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra. The papers from the conference are available in T. Bonyhady and P. Christoff (eds.), Climate Law in Australia, The Federation Press, Sydney, New South Wales, 2007.

The 2008 conference, Adapting to Climate Change – Law and Policy, was organised by Prof. Tim Bonyhady and Andrew Macintosh in collaboration with Prof. Jan McDonald of Griffith University.

Organised by ANU Centre for Climate Law & Policy and the Griffith University Socio-Legal Research Centre.

Supported by Baker & McKenzie lawyers - founding sponsor of the ANU Centre for Climate Law & Policy.

Date: 19 and 20 June 2008

Conference topics included:

  • developments in adaptation case law;
  • designing policy frameworks for optimal levels of adaptation;
  • the capacity of the law to adjust to abrupt climatic changes;
  • urban planning laws and adaptation;
  • adaptation and water law; and
  • restructuring biodiversity laws for a warming world.
