Hartnell Colloquium (2007)
The Centre for Commercial Law hosted the second Hartnell Colloquium on 6 July
2007. The one day event on Avoiding Conflict of Interest in Commercial Settings
was attended by 40 people. Speakers included The Hon. Justice Keith
Mason AC, President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal; Richard
St John, CAMAC and special Counsel to Johnson Winter and Slattery;
David Tennant, CARE Inc; and Dr Pamela Hanrahan
from the University of Melbourne.
The Centre would like to thank Tony Hartnell for his generous donation to make
this event possible.
Seminar by Professor Harry Glasbeek
Topic: Author of the book Wealth by Stealth
Date: Friday 4 May 2007 (3pm - 5pm)
Harry Glasbeek is Professor Emeritus and Senior Scholar at Osgoode Hall Law
School, York University, Toronto. He is currently a Visiting Professorial Fellow
at Victoria University. He taught at the law schools of Monash and Melbourne
universities before taking up his position in Toronto. He has written books
on both Australian and Canadian Evidence law and on both Australian and Canadian
labour law, as well as over 100 articles on diverse subjects. His tenth and
latest book is Wealth by Stealth: Corporate Crime, Corporate Law and the Perversion
of Democracy.

into certain Australian companies in relation to the UN Oil-for-Food Programme
The Centre for Commercial Law and the Centre for International and Public Law
presented an informal seminar on 12 December 2006.
Hartnell Colloquium (2006)
The Centre for Commercial Law hosted a very successful one-day Colloquium on
corporate accountability and public access to corporate information on 7 July.
The Hon. Justice Nevell Owen, HIH Royal Comissioner and judge of the Supreme
Court of Western Australia was the keynote speaker. Other speakers included
Mr Jeremy Kriewaldt (Atanaskovic Hartnell), Mr Marcus Priest (Australian Financial
Review), Professor Ian Ramsay (University of Melbourne) and Mr Malcolm Rodgers
(ASIC). Professor Paul Redmond (UNSW) chaired the concluding session of the
day.
The event was made possible by the generous donation of Tony Hartnell from
Atanaskovic Hartnell.
