Inaugural Tokyo Seminar

“Japanese Law & the Economy”

Invitation to Opening Session - 18 February 2008

The Australian Network for Japanese Law (ANJeL) is an initiative of the law faculties at the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of Sydney (USyd). The core aim of ANJeL is to promote scholarly engagement with Japanese law, especially in Australia.

ANJeL extended an open invitation to the members of the Tokyo international community to attend the opening session of its Inaugural Tokyo Seminar. The Tokyo Seminar is designed for students to engage intensively with applied corporate and commercial Japanese law topics and was held over the course of the week of 18-22 February 2008 at Ritsumeikan University’s Tokyo campus.

The opening session incorporated presentations by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and by the Bank of Japan and overviews of the Japanese economy by Japan Foundation Research Fellow Leon Wolff and Professor Makoto Ibusuki of Ritsumeikan University.

Attendance at the opening session was free of charge although ANJeL welcomes donations to assist teaching, research and events. Further details of ANJeL’s mission and activities can be found at http://www.law.usyd.edu.au/anjel/.
